4. Does the Yamaha Part Number mean anything ?
|
|
It certainly does....
For a Part Number in the format XXX-XXXXX-XX-XX
The first three digits are the Model Code (every model in the Yamaha Product Line has a unique model number)
all parts are given a Model Code of the first model they were used on.
The middle five digits are the Basic Code number and indicate the section of the bike that the parts belong to (so 111XX means Engine, Cylinder Head).
The next two digits are the Design Code and Design Change digits (so 01 means the part has had one design change).
The last two digits are the Color Code and Size Code.
For a Part Number in the format XXXXX-XXXXX-XX
All these parts are Hardware (fasteners), they all start with a '9' and end in '00'.
The second digit tells us what type of fastener:
0 - 'various'
1 - bolts, cotter pins
2 - screws, nuts
3 - oil seals, O-rings, bearings
4 - spark plugs
5 - bolts, nuts
6 - ISO bolts
7 - ISO screws and nuts
The fourth digit tells us what material.
The fifth digit tells us what surface finish (chromed etc).
Digits six and seven are the diameter (inner or outer).
Digits eight, nine and ten are the length (except for '901' bolts for some reason)

8. I registered, but didn't receive my activation password.
|
|
Once you register an activation password is generated and it will be automatically emailed to you. If you didn't receive this within 5 minutes then here's a few things to check.
- If your email address was not entered correctly, you'll never get the activation email.
- Your mailbox may be full or you may be having a problem with your email client.
- If you use AOL, Compuserve or a few other email services, you may have some manner of filtering enabled that is preventing our email from being delivered to you. For example, you may have 'internet email' disabled on AOL or have instructed AOL to only accept email from persons you have specifically listed.
Unfortunately some email systems (yours may be one) incorrectly identify automatic emails as 'spam' and block them.
If you think this has happened to you then email me at the address on the 'Contact' page and I'll manually resend the email. This may take a day or so.

9. How can I compare the parts diagrams for two models ?
|
|
You can view a parts diagram (microfiche) by first selecting 'Part Finding' then 'Find a Part Number' from the menu. If the headings under 'Where on the bike' are underlined then the parts diagram is available, click on the name to view.
Once you are viewing your first diagram you can click on 'Compare' in the bottom right-hand corner to load up another viewer.

11. How do I print a Gasket Template ?
|
|
Where a gasket has a picture that is grayed out and contains the "XS1100 UK" symbol that picture is a printable gasket template. You can print it out and make your own gasket using gasket paper.
- Click on the thumbnail picture to show the full size picture
- Right-click and 'Save Picture As' to your PC
- Load the picture into MS Paint
- Go to File, then Page Setup and set...
--- All Page Margins to 0
--- Untick the Centering Horizontal and Centering Vertical boxes
--- Make sure that Scaling is set to 100%
- Then to print it, got to File then Print
I would suggest that you first confirm that your printer has not changed the size of the Template by first printing one on normal paper and comparing the printed axis with a ruler.
Small (one page) gaskets can be printed directly onto gasket paper. For larger, two page gaskets first cut off the white border that your printer has left then overlap the two pictures using the image of the ruler to line things up.
